DB2 Web Query Sales and Inventory
OLAPs Backgrounder
DB2 Web Query was a new
product for this company. The
plan was to explore the DB2 Web
Query Licensed Program and see how
DB2 Web Query would help the
company. We had seen the demos but
needed to see it in action on real
company data.
We loaded necessary PTfs,
Prerequisites, and the DB2 Web Query
Licensed Program on the i5. We
loaded the Developer Workbench and
began to define the metadata for our
first DB2 File. In just a short time
we had created simple OLAP report
for the AR department. Using
the OLAP feature of DB2 Web Query we
were able to allow the AR Manager a
report with an unlimited combination
of selection criteria resulting in a
report to screen, PDF, or MS Excel.
The report was huge success.
We then developed a
report for the Inventory Crew. It
was simply an OLAP against
transaction history. We made two
versions. One with quantities and
the other with dollars.
Certain employees could not see
dollars or cost. The user was
able to use one report or both. This
report was also a great success
because of the OLAP feature.
Technologies
used on the project:
This project was
completed in 2008. Since the initial
project the company has made a huge
investment in DB2 Web Query. A new
i5 Power 6 was installed. With that
install of the new machine, all
modules of DB2 Web Query were
purchased. DB2 Web query is used in
Accounts Receivable, Accounts
Payable, Purchasing, Inventory,
Warehouse Management, and Upper
Management Dashboards, Leader
Boards, and KPI Reporting.
